About Us

The Forest of Dean Conservative Association is responsible for the area covering the Parliamentary constituency that comprises the Forest of Dean District Council area and Highnam & Hawbridge from Tewkesbury Borough Council. Within the Association, there are various branch committees which represent the members in their wards, as well as being responsible for carrying out campaigning and fundraising work in their areas.

While the bulk of the Association's work is carried out by volunteers who raise all the funds we need to operate effectively, there is professional support available from the Gloucestershire Group of Associations. All of the administrative work of the six constituencies within Gloucestershire takes place at the Group Office, one of the first of it's kind in the country and held up as a model for other areas. It ensures that all six associations have professional cover, takes advantage of efficiency savings by working collectively, and frees up the voluntary party for campaigning work and organising events.

The Gloucestershire Group of Associations occupies purpose-built offices at Gloucester Business Park. It provides professional staff, printing facilities and office administration. Three Party-qualified Agents are employed by the Gloucestershire Group, each having responsibility for their specific constituencies. Senior Agent Lucy Wheeler looks after Cotswold and Gloucester. George Askew has responsibility for the Forest of Dean, Cheltenham and Tewkesbury and Sonia Williams looks after Stroud and Thornbury and Yate.

Membership

Being a member of the Forest of Dean Conservative Association means being a member of the most open and democratic British political party.
Although politicians and Conservative Campaign Headquarters are seen as the public face of the Conservative Party, the heart of the organisation lies with it's members.

Our members support the party in many different ways:

  • making direct contact with the public with doorstep campaigning;
  • organising and attending social events;
  • standing for election to local Councils;
  • providing new ideas and experience;
  • keeping our MP, Councillor and Council candidates informed on a huge range of issues;
  • assisting in the formation of policy.

Whether you want to get involved in local politics, become an MP or simply participate in the occasional social event, the Forest of Dean Conservative Association is active and has something for you. Events are held throughout the year and are advertised in our quarterly members' newsletter - please do come along and meet more of the team.
